Cairo, Egypt (PortSEurope) June 13, 2019 – The local Ministry of Transport has announced a tender to participate in the construction of the country’s first dry port under a public-private partnership (PPP) scheme.
The site is the industrial zone of the 6th of October City, which is is a city in Giza Governorate, a satellite town and part of the urban area of Cairo, Egypt, 32 km outside the city. It has one of the largest industrial zones in Egypt on which the entire city is established. When established the dry port will provide services for the Mediterranean ports of Alexandria and Dekheila.
Three consortia are reported to be submitting bids in July.
Singapore-based PSA International will head a consortium including Conkor or India and the local Hassan Allam group.
DP World will form a consortium with Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport, and other local partners.
Elsewedy Electric, Shanwar Egypt and 3A International head a third group.
