Eurogate’s Traffic In Italy Declines In 2018, Dragged By Cagliari, Gioia Tauro Ports Transshipment

Cagliari, Italy (PortSEurope) February 12, 2019 – Germany’s Eurogate Group has reported a 6% decline in the handling of cargo traffic in Italy, with the overall performance dragged down by lower transshipment traffic in Cagliari and Gioia Tauro.

On the other hand, the performance was positive for La Spezia and Salerno, which posted increases of 0.8% and 5.6%, respectively.

At the other foreign terminals of the Eurogate Group, the cargo traffic remained stable. In Tangier, Morocco, transshipment volumes of 1.38 million TEUs were at the high level of the previous year.

The strike-related drop in volumes in Lisbon, Portugal, by around 30% to 137,000 TEUs is offset by the positive development of Limassol, Cyprus, with a growth of around 14% to almost 394,000 TEUs.
