
Fincantieri consortium awarded €377.4 million contract for the Darsena Europa

Livorno, Italy (PortSEurope) December 31, 2021 – A consortium of Fincantieri Infrastructure Opere marittime, Società Italiana Dragaggi, Sales and Fincosit has been awarded the €377.4 million integrated contract for the Darsena Europa. The client is Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Settentrionale (AdSP – North Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority). The contract includes the protection works of the new port (North) entrance of the port
of Livorno, the new port basin of the Darsena Europa with its access channel, the construction of new containment tanks and the dredging activities connected to their functionality. Specifically, the construction of an external breakwater of 4.6 km is envisaged, consisting of the new breakwater pier (North Dam) and the construction of the new Meloria Dam under the breakwater. The old one will be demolished. Internal dams will also be built for 2.3 km, to delimit the new fill tanks (90 hectares) which will be added to the existing ones (70 hectares) and already the subject of a consolidation project. The dredging interventions are aimed at basing of the new works, the deepening of the seabed of the access channel and the construction of the basins and internal docks. In total, 15.7 million cubic meters will be dredged. Further steps, including an environmental impact assessment, are required before construction can start in 2023. Copyright (C) PortSEurope.
