Valencia, Spain (PortSEurope) May 16, 2019 – The fire of the car carrier Grimaldi Grande Europa has affected the embarking of cars of the U.S. automobile company Ford at Valencia port.
Port sources point out that the company is having to reorder the shipment of units manufactured in its Almussafes factory in Spain to the British market, specifically via Southampton port.
Unlike other cargo, cars require special ships, with a structure very similar to a huge parking lot. Having fewer ships of these characteristics, solving incidents like these is less easy.
Grande Europa is a car carrier of 183 metres in length under an Italian flag. The freight carrier, which was struck some 15 miles from Cabrera, the National Park south of Mallorca, had left from the Italian port of Salerno, south of Naples, and its destination was the port of Valencia.
