Genoa Port To Beat Container Traffic Record In 2017

Genoa, Italy (PortSEurope) December 28, 2017 – Genoa port expects its container traffic to exceed 2.6 million TEUs in 2017, versus 2.3 million TEUs last year, the president of the Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea Port System (Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ligure Occidentale), Paolo Emilio Signorini, said.

“This is an absolute record for the port, broken thanks to the general economic recovery,” he noted. The integration of the management of the ports of Genoa and Savona into a single institution has attracted the interest of large players in the shipping sector and investment funds, Signorini added.

“The role of the management is to create the conditions for the interest to be transformed into concrete investments and to do so we must be quicker to give the answers that private companies ask of us. There are objective obstacles of a bureaucratic nature, but as a body, we must do everything possible to make the procedures more efficient and immediate,” Signorini said.
