Gioia Tauro port takes steps to speed up controls of goods in port

Gioia Tauro, Italy (PortSEurope) June 22, 2018 – Special commissioner of Autorità Portuale di Gioia Tauro (Port Authority of Gioia Tauro), Andrea Agostinelli, and the director of the Customs Office of Gioia Tauro, Domenico Frisario, have signed the protocol for the implementation of the video surveillance equipment in the port. The task was entrusted to the Service Talarico company, which will proceed to the repair or replacement of those parts of the plant that were found to be damaged.

The equipment includes a scanner, equipped with high technology, which aims to implement the efficiency of controls and inspection activities on containers through the use of an X-ray unit and gamma-ray detector.

At the same time, in order to increase the competitiveness of the port, the scanner will also serve to speed up transit. Thanks, in fact, to its very high control capacity, which inspects any type of goods inside the containers, it will be possible to meet the need for security required at the port. At the same time, it will be possible to guarantee an acceleration of the internal operating flows at the port, sought after by the market that is constantly evolving.

The scanner will support the judicial police operations carried out by both the Customs Agency and the Guardia di Finanza against illegal trafficking.
