Huelva, Spain (PortSEurope) June 20, 2019 – Huelva port authority has awarded a €40 million ($45.2 million) contract to Spanish civil engineering company Ferrovial for the expansion of the extension of the harbour’s South Pier.

The execution period is 25 months and the project is a step in the commitment of the port for diversification and innovation, both in general cargo traffic and containers.

The project will grant a new extension of 500 additional metres to the South Pier in the port’s northern area. In this way, the port will extend its docking area to a total of 1,200 metres once these works are completed.

In addition, the dock will have an initial draft of 15 metres in order to simultaneously serve two Post-Panamax container vessels of 6,400 TEUs simultaneously, being expandable to a future draft of 17 metres to be able to adapt to larger ships in the future.
