Haifa, Israel (PortSEurope) December 18, 2018 – Israel’s government has approved the a tender for a strategic partner in the operation of Haifa port, in order to upgrade the harbour’s facilities and enhance its competitiveness.
The tender will be launched in the next six months and is envisaged in a cooperation agreement signed by Israel’s transport, finance ministries, as well as Haifa port operator Namal Haifa and trade union Gistadrut.
“The reform will allow modernising the port and opening it for competition, it will function much more efficiently at lower costs, which will serve to the benefit of the country’s economy and the citizens of Israel. For the successful implementation of the reforms, mutual understanding and cooperation between the state and the workers are necessary,” Kahlon noted.
As part of the project, Israel’s transport ministry will carry out projects for the construction of access roads to Haifa port and a voluntary retirement scheme will be launched. Moreover, the mechanism for the formation of salaries will be modified to stimulate productivity.
