Olbia, Italy (PortSEurope) February 14, 2019 – Italy’s Minister of Infrastructures and Transport, Danilo Toninelli, has visited the ports of Olbia and Porto Torres and, about a month after the visit to Cagliari for the issues related to the ports of Southern Sardinia, he met the president of Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mare Di Sardegna (AdSP – Sardinian Sea Port Authority), Massimo Deiana, who explained to the minister the potentials and the key issues of the four ports in northern Sardinia.
Among the main problems highlighted, the need for a simplification of the procedures for excavation and disposal of waste materials extracted from the seabed of the Gulf of Olbia. Regarding Golfo Aranci, the president of the port authority has brought to Toninelli’s attention the need to overcome the historic problems linked to the presence on the quay of infrastructures of the railway-maritime connection, whose operation is, however, for years reduced to the minimum terms.
At the end of the meeting, Deiana highlighted that with the minister that “there is an understanding of the strategic nature of Sardinian ports and the need to achieve a streamlining of procedures for the construction of port facilities and dredging, key points for the strengthening of the activities of Sardinian ports and, in general, of the entire Italian port system”.
