Genoa, Italy (PortSEurope) October 10, 2018 – Italy’s government estimates that the normal traffic of cargo to and from Genoa port can recover in March 2019, deputy transport minister Edoardo Rixi said.
“While waiting for the construction of a new bridge, we have launched new railway lines, we are creating alternative routes and we believe that the norm can return at least at the end of March next year,” Rixi said, commenting on the measures to cope with the consequences of the collapse of the Morandi bridge in August 2018.
The road haulage traffic that transits through central and southern France will suffer the largest damage, Rixi said. “Obviously, new resources for road transport will be made available in 2019.”
It is crucial not to wait for the reconstruction of a new bridge, as one year seems a small period, but it is a lot for the affected companies, he added.
