Italy sets up Authority for the Venice Lagoon

Venice, Italy (PortSEurope) August 13, 2020 – The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has approved the establishment of l’Autorità per la Laguna di Venezia (Authority for the Venice Lagoon) which will assume the responsibilities of Magistrato delle acque (the former Water Magistrate). The authority will set up a fully-owned company for the management and maintenance of the Mose, a project intended to protect the city
of Venice and the Venetian Lagoon from flooding. The liquidation of Consorzio Venezia Nuova, an Italian consortium set up to carry out plans and works aimed at safeguarding Venice and its lagoon, has been ordered. The main project of the consortium was the Mose project.
