Italy’s ARPAC To Monitor Naples Port’s Air Quality

Naples, Italy (PortSEurope) December 7, 2018 – Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Centro-Settentrionale (AdSP – Centre-North Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority) has signed a cooperation agreement with the environmental protection agency of Campania region, ARPAC, for the monitoring of the air quality of Naples port.

The project aims to ensure an improvement of the sustainability of the port system of Campania. After the start of the project for the electrification of the Calata porta di Massa quay for the Caremar ferries, the initiative continues the efforts of the port authority to reduce the environmental impact of port operations.

The monitoring carried out by Arpac will last for two years and will cover the areas of the Naples port which are most at risk of pollution by moored ships. The surveys will be carried out through a mobile laboratory and with the sampling of fine particles, for subsequent analysis.

At the end of the project, Arpac will present the results, to the port authority, the Regional Council of Campania and the Naples city government.
