Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to support new economic zones in the south

Rome, Italy (PortSEurope) November 8, 2018 – The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) has said that it will create the necessary conditions for a full synergy between the railway, naval, air and road transport infrastructures in order to support the creation of Zone economiche speciali (Zes – special economic zones).

The Minister of the Technical Secretariat, Dimitri Dello Buono, said at the recent workshop “The establishment of Special Economic Zones in Southern Italy”, the attention of MIT is also focused on energy efficiency and the digitization of the logistics chain, using the most advanced IT technologies.

To implement this plan in support of the Zes, MIT may use the available allocation of €865.8 million ($987.66 million) from the Infrastructure Annex of the Def 2018.
