Ravenna, Italy (PortSEurope) December 3, 2018 – Italian company Depositi Italiani GNL, a 51/49 joint venture of PIR-Petrolifera Italo Rumena group and Edison, plans to start the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage facility in Ravenna port in January 2019.
A total of €100 million ($113.3 million) will be invested in the project, which is expected to be completed in 2021. The storage facility will have a capacity of 20,000 cubic metres of LNG, 85% of which will be used by Edison and the remainder sold to third parties.
PIR, operator of Ravenna port’s Corsini dock, will provide services for the reception of tankers.
Edison has entered into a 12-year contract with Norwegian shipowner Knutsen Oas shipping for the charter of a 30,000 cubic LNG vessel. The ship will be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in the Mipo shipyard in South Korea and will be delivered in the first half of 2021.
The construction of the deposit in Ravenna is part of the Small scale LNG project with which Edison aims to introduce liquefied natural gas into continental Italy as an alternative fuel for sustainable mobility in small-scale heavy and maritime transport.
