İzmir to receive new floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU)

Izmir, Turkey (PortSEurope) July 5, 2019 – The Aliağa district of İzmir is today scheduled to receive a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU). Turkey’s first FSRU, which entered service in 2016 and is run by Etki Liman İşletmeleri Doğalgaz İthalat Ve Ticaret A.Ş. (Etki LNG FSRU Terminal).

The first LNG floating vessel has a storage capacity of 139,000 m³ and was able to provide 14 million m³ of gas into the Turkish network daily. The new FSRU, made by Hyundai Heavy Industries, has a storage capacity of 170,000 m³ of gas, it will also compress 28 million m³ of natural gas to the system on a daily basis. This will improve the country’s energy security.
