Kosovo benefits from Durrës port customs post

Durrës, Albania (PortSEurope) November 24, 2019 – The opening of the Kosovo customs point at the Albanian Adriatic port of Durrës has contributed to the increased imports of freight destined for Kosovo, as well as facilitated the customs procedures, reported the Kosovo government. According to Kosovo Customs, since the start of operations (January 15, 2019) of the customs point at the port, about 4,000 lorries
were destined for customs terminals in Kosovo. Goods destined for the Kosovo market are controlled and cleared by Kosovo Customs officers located at this port, and the operation has reduced the cost of transport costs, time and bureaucratic trading procedures. More than 60% of foreign goods entering Kosovo, according to official data, use maritime transport, specifically Durrës and Shengjin in Albania. The utilization of maritime transport for imported goods had begun to increase after the completion of the “Ibrahim Rugova” highway, also known as the ‘Nation Road’, which connects Kosovo with Albania and vice versa.
