Las Palmas, Spain (PortSEurope) January 2, 2018 – Las Palmas port authority (Autoridad Portuaria de Las Palmas) recorded a 12% increase in cruise traffic last year, handling more than one million passengers and maintaining the leading growth among Spanish harbours in the segment.

In absolute numbers, Las Palmas port ranks third after Barcelona and the Balearic Islands, while forecasts for 2018 predict an increase. Las Palmas also remains the leading cruise port on the Canary Islands.

At the end of 2017, the port handled nine cruise ships, namely “Mein Shiff 4”, “AIDAsol”, “Balmoral”, “Horizon”, “Queen Elizabeth”, “AIDAblue”, “Norwegian Spirit”, “Oriana”,”Ventura”,”AIDAprima”, “Marella Dream”, “Columbus” and “Magellan”.

The number of calls in 2017 was 554 with 1,233,421 passengers, versus 525 calls and 1,102,256 passengers were 2016. The main cruise shipping companies that visited the port of Las Palmas were, by order, AIDA Cruises, TUI Cruises, Thomson Cruises, P&O Cruises, Pullmantur Cruises, Costa Cruises, MSC Cruises, Fred Olsen and Royal Caribbean.
