Malta announces plan to develop Grand Harbour

Valletta, Malta (PortSEurope) August 9, 2021 – Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg has presented the government’s proposals to regenerate the Grand Harbour. This includes expanding the cruise terminal, relocating cargo handling and using quayside buildings for recreational activities. The plan includes redeveloping the coastline from Fort St Elmo in Valletta to Fort Ricasoli in Kalkara. The key points are: Joining two quays into one structure on
the Kordin side which would increase the spave available to handle cargoExtending the cruise liner terminal inwardsTransformation of the Marsa Menqa into a recreational area Borg said, “In this vision, we are looking at nine specific zones in the Grand Harbour, which areas, even with the contribution of the private sector, will put Malta on the next level so that our port will remain a source of economic and social activity”.
