Málaga, Spain (PortSEurope) June 25, 2019 – Spanish company Marítima Alborán has incorporated to the Málaga-Motril route the ‘Sicilia’ ferry, which will almost triple the capacity for passengers, cars and ro-ro of the service.
In total, the company will be able to transport 950,000 passengers and 250 cars on each trip, as well as1,400 linear metres of freight.
The vessel will be operational until October, in order to cover the sharp increase in demand during the Operación Paso del Estrecho (OPE), the largest transit of people by sea between Europe and Africa.
The connection adds to the one managed by Trasmediterránea, which historically has been the main operator in the link. The shipping company puts into service two departures on Mondays from Melilla, and one rotation in each direction the rest of the days.
