Mostaganem port sees 56% increase in volume of commercial activity in Jan-Sept 2018

Mostaganem, Algeria (PortSEurope) October 14, 2018 – Total commercial activity at Mostaganem port in the first nine months of 2018 was 1.23 million tons, compared to 654,000 tons in the same period of 2017, an increase of 56%. Imports in this period were 78,486 tons, up 52% on the same period of 2017. There was a 40% drop in cereal imports, 32% potato seed, 37% food and 81% cement
tubes. Import volumes declined for chemicals, building products, and increased for wood, steel tubes and plates, cement and chemical fertilizers. This period of 2018 saw the export of 3,100 tons of helium, 4,630 tons of clay used in batteries, 21,366 tons of material, 529 tons of potatoes for consumption, 128 tons of dates and 51 tons of market garden foods. Container activity also recorded a recovery in 2018, according to the same balance sheet, for import and export operations where 23,853 containers unloaded 111,000 tons and 22,045 loaded 52,000 tons of goods destined abroad.
