Civitavecchia, Italy (PortSEurope) October 1, 2018 – The fourth edition of the MOST (Motorways of the Sea Training) course, organized by the European Escola of Intermodal Transport, took place on a Grimaldi vessel in Civitavecchia port. The Motorways of the Sea represent, for the port of Civitavecchia, one of the most important traffic segments that, thanks to the project funded by the EU “BClink”, will be
further developed in the Civitavecchia-Barcelona section with the construction of a new Ro-Ro pontoon in the port of Civitavecchia and the modification of a quay and a terminal in the port of Barcelona. Approximately 40 participants attended the course, some of whom come from other Italian Port System Authorities (AdSPs – Taranto & Genoa) and Barcelona, as well as representatives of RAM and ALIS. Also present were Director General for the Supervision of the Port Authorities of the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transportation Dr. Mauro Coletta, and President of the Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Centro-Settentrionale (AdSP – Centre-North Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority), Francesco Maria di Majo, who reiterated that these training courses also accompany the development of the Motorways of the Sea, intermodal transport and logistics. The AdSP continues in its activities to support the Escola that last April unanimously decided to open its Italian headquarters in Civitavecchia and that, in 2019, will begin, in the port of Lazio, a new training project “Formati al Porto”, already successfully tested in Barcelona. Finally, in addition to the Formati al Porto, a further project is currently underway, financed by the Union for the Mediterranean, which takes the name “Translogmed” and which in the next five years will see Escola and its partners working in North Africa for the promotion of intermodality and short sea shipping (SSS) service. Escola Europea – Intermodal Transport is a training centre with a programme that introduces the technical concepts of the logistics and port sectors to the participants using a methodology that facilitates communication and relations among the participants. Escola Europea partners include the Port of Barcelona, the Italian shipping group Grimaldi, Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Centro-Settentrionale, Port of genoa and GNV (Grandi Navi Veloci).
