Nuova Energia Mobile Set Up To Promote Interporto Vespucci As Livorno Port Energy Hub

Livorno, Italy (PortSEurope) June 16, 2018 – Three companies, Sharengo, Green Energy Storage and Materials Mates Italia, have set up Consorzio N.E.Mo (Nuova Energia Mobile – New Mobile Energy) to develop Interporto Vespucci as an energy hub.

The agreement signed by the three companies could soon allow the Guasticce-based Interporto Vespucci to develop as a centre of excellence for applied research with specific reference to the integration between the energy sector and sustainable mobility.

By cataloging, measuring, selecting and assembling the still usable cells of the old electric machine batteries into functional accumulations. This could be Interporto’s future core business. “Not everyone knows that the old batteries of electric cars can provide energy for at least another five or ten years,” says Emiliano Nicolai, managing director of CS group, a company that will soon become part of N.E.Mo, “it is green energy that we could reuse to feed, for example, the houses on whose roofs with solar panels”. This energy could be used to meet demand during peak times.

He adds that, “N.E.Mo wants to bring excellence in the field of research, putting Interporto Vespucci in a position to become a centre of innovation and an incubator of companies that operate in the field of second-life batteries».

The project is practically ready with Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Settentrionale (AdSP – North Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority) and Interporto working together to reach the objective. It is hoped that the Region will also become involved in the project.

Situated between the Mediterranean and Europe, next to Livorno port, in the middle of an infrastructural system that connects Tuscany to Europe, Interport Toscano Amerigo Vespucci covers three million m² designed to develop the businesses of Tuscany and central Italy.

A strategic logistic position, equipped with a 130,000 m² railway terminal designed and built for the transport and handling of containers and trailers.

Strategic node with the port of Livorno for the motorways of the sea is a point of reference for the main routes of the Mediterranean to rationalize and limit road transport.
A secure and controlled platform 24 hours a day .
