Oleosilos De Galicia To Invest €2 Million In New Liquid Bulk Terminal In The Outer Port Of Langosteira, A Coruña

Coruña, Spain (PortSEurope) October 21, 2019 – Autoridad Portuaria de A Coruña (APC – A Coruña Port Authority) is to grant Oleosilos de Galicia SA a concession to construct and operate a terminal for the unloading and storage of liquid bulk in the Exterior Port of Punta Langosteira, on a plot of 3,000 m² for 35 years.

Oleosilos de Galicia will invest around €2 million in a terminal with a direct connection with the dock and is scheduled to be operational next year. 2020. This investment adds to the investment announced this week, for an amount of €3 million, by Maritime Terminals of Galicia, in the framework of a process of expansion and consolidation of industrial facilities that are carried out by companies that are located in the Langosteira dock.

The optimal performance of the new port motivates an increasingly determined commitment of the operators to implant and grow in Punta Langosteira, which has so far translated into investments of private companies  amounting to €210 million, and a traffic of goods that has already exceeded 9 million tons.

Other announcements include the maintenance of the activity of fishing and auxiliary companies in the Oza dock and in the San Diego quay, such as Domar Naval Workshops, Maritime Tejero and Galigrain. In these cases, the term is established only in four years, as a precaution against developments that can be made in the medium term in this area, with a clause that would allow the Port Authority to terminate the concession before that period. However, the lack of rail connection from the Outer Port makes it impossible to transfer bulk discharges to Langosteira, and consequently is currently preventing the release of the spaces occupied by these operators.

In April 2018, the Ministry of Development had pledged to tender the work of the rail link in the first half of 2019, with funding from the State Ports and ADIF, but, a year and a half later, the current central government did not has advanced in the fulfillment of this essential commitment to complete the operations of the Outer Port.
