Onorato Armatori not to use its newest ship in Mediterranean

Genoa, Italy (PortSEurope) December 4, 2018 – Italian group Onorato Armatori plans to employ the Alfa Pollak ro-ro ship recently constructed by the German shipyards of Flensburg in the seas of Northern Europe instead of the Mediterranean.

The vessel was leased out to a company which intends to use it for its services in Northern Europe, while the ship will be relocated to the Mediterranean routes services by the Italian group on a later stage, Onorato Armatori said.

“The choice was made on the basis of a particularly favourable freight market, but especially in view of the fact that the growth trend in the Mediterranean is not yet mature enough,” the company added.

The current market conditions in the Mediterranean are not suitable to accommodate a ship with a transport capacity of 4,200 linear metres, Onorato Armatori said.
