Naples, Italy (Ports Europe) September 13, 2024 – The Piloda Shipyard has completed maintenance and repair work on the tug Sant’Elmo for Rimorchiatori Napoletani.
With a current fleet of 19 tugs, Rimorchiatori Napoletani plays a key role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of port operations in Naples and throughout the Mediterranean.
The Sant’Elmo, together with Punta Campanella and Punta Scutolo (undergoing maintenance at the Pilota shipyard in Brindisi), is part of the first series of azimuth tugs, among the first in Italy. An azimuth thruster is a marine propulsion system that rotates around a vertical axis (hence the name) and can therefore be oriented in any horizontal direction, eliminating the need for a rudder.
