Port Authority presents the new facility “Málaga Port Control”

The president of Autoridad Portuaria de Málaga (APM – Port Authority of Málaga), Carlos Rubio, today presented the new Málaga Port Control facilities from which the maritime traffic coordination and control service is provided to facilitate the navigation of ships in port waters in terms of safety and efficiency, as well as to preserve the marine environment – January 25, 2021 This activity, previously managed by the Corporation of Pilots
of the Port of Malaga (Corporación de Prácticos del Puerto de Málaga), was entrusted to Tragsatec in the Board of Directors on October 2, 2020. The president of the Port Authority highlights that “the increase in port traffic in general has led us to take a further step in the monitoring and control processes of operations in the enclosure, investing in new equipment that offers more detailed information on port operations, emphasizing environmental issues”. New facilities The improvement of the service led to the execution of the project for the comprehensive adaptation of two contiguous premises located in the building of the Maritime Station of Pier 3 , for an amount of €96,972 (plus VAT), awarded to El Corte Inglés. The works have consisted of the adaptation of two different work spaces. On the one hand, the control room, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, equipped with a 2×2 meter “videowall” that shows all the information necessary for the control of maritime traffic, integrating the visualization of the new VTS equipment, radar , AIS station-Automatic Identification System, the weather station and security cameras. In addition, it has set up a meeting room , also equipped with 75-inch monitor where you can replicate the VTS information and serve as a meeting area for managing incidents in the maritime field. In line with the foregoing, the Port Authority has also provided the same furniture to the Service Coordination Center, where the Port Police controls the activity on the premises. Featured Features The main functions included in the Malaga Port Control service are the following: Coordination Programming of maneuvers, schedules, mooring or anchoring positions and preparation of navigation plans with ships.Coordination of the provision of the different port services in relation to the programmed maneuvers.Authorization of the movement of vessels at the entrance and exit of the berth or anchorage or on the waterways.Coordination of the movements of ships and boats in general in the service area, as well as giving the necessary instructions for that purpose.Organization of traffic on inland waterways, crossings, ranges, exclusion of zones, restrictions due to length or hydrometeorological conditions, etc. Control Identification, position, intentions and destination of the vessels.Verification of the mooring or anchoring positions, control of them and assistance during the stay.Surveillance and delivery of instructions about speed limits, compliance with rules or ordinances on routes, requirements for the use of a pilot or trailer or any other rule established by the Port or Maritime authority.Monitoring of the Navigation Plan agreed with the ships.
