Port Authority To Discuss Elba Issues

Port authority to discuss Elba issues

Livorno, Italy (PortSEurope) November 14, 2018 – Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Settentrionale (AdSP – North Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority) and the Municipality of Portoferraio have organized a day to discuss development and innovation projects for the Island of Elba, based on the following themes: • Maritime and airborne territorial continuity for Elba; • Connections and digital infrastructures; • Sustainability and environmental monitoring of port and
logistical processes; • Ongoing funding and European planning for the development of the Blue Economy sectors; Starting from January 2019 the AdSP, after the information phase and observations of the local stakeholders, will propose the first activities favouring the integration and the welding of the initiatives financed by the European Union (EU) programs with the agendas of territorial development of public and private initiative. During the day co-funded EU actions will be presented that will result in concrete actions on the island, with particular attention to innovation and sustainability. The AdSP, in collaboration with the Municipality of Portoferraio and the Schools, will offer scholarships for students of the last year of the Elba schools, to deepen the themes of sustainable development, the blue economy and territorial continuity. The port and logistics functions are inserted in this framework transversally both for the potential for growth, for sustainability and environmental efficiency, as well as for the improvement of the mobility of goods and passengers. New technologies, the re-engineering of innovative processes and tools contribute to making islands and archipelagos no longer isolated areas but systems connected and functionally integrated with the continental markets. The European Union has placed emphasis on territorial cohesion, on innovative ecosystems, on the opportunities offered by the Blue Economy. Established in 2016, the AdSP is unique in the Italian port panorama, due to the impact of passenger traffic and the importance of connections with the islands, and also a reference to the European planning of the trans-European transport network for the Autostrade del Mare connections.
