Port of Algeciras tenders Juan Carlos I Pier development

Algeciras, Spain (PortSEurope) July 1, 2021 – The Bay of Algeciras Port Authority (APBA) has tendered a project to redevelop the docking and defense elements of the Juan Carlos I Pier which can then receive larger vessels. The €3.5 million project aims is to replace and repair t240 existing fenders to adapt them to the new generations of container ships, capable of transporting more than
23,000 TEU. Thus, the megaships will be able to continue docking at the APM Terminals Algeciras terminal with the maximum security guarantees. the work should be completed in nine months. Since the first expansion of the Muelle del Navío, since renamed Juan Carlos I, in 1990, its defenses have been adjusted to the increasing size of the ships operating in the port.
