Port of Odessa increases transshipment in September

Odessa, Ukraine (PortSEurope) October 14, 2021 – The volume of transshipment of the Odessa seaport in September was 2.09 million tons of cargo, up +10.3% on September last year (1.89 million tons). At the month, the increase in dry cargo handling was 9.9% (1.95 mt against 1.77 million tons), the increase in bulk 15.9% (138,800 tons against 119,800 tons). The increase was mainly due to the
increase in shipments of export grain, commented head of the port administration Maxim Lapay. August saw a significant increase in the range of cereals. In September, this trend continued: 862,000 tons were shipped from the port elevators, up 35.7% higher than in September last year. Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) reported that the volume of cargo handling in the port in January-September 2021 was 16.55 mt, which is 94.5% of the same figure in I-III quarters last year (17.52 mt). At the same time, the indicator of container transshipment moved to the “plus” zone: 498,408 TEU against 480,081 TEU (+3.8%). In the first half of 2021, the decrease in the volume of transshipment compared to the first half of 2020 was 13.6%. Thus, in the 3rd quarter, cargo terminal operators reduced the gap by more than 2.5 times.
