Port of Tarragona is included in the Top30 ranking of the ports of the European Union

Tarragona Port is included in the ranking of the 30 ports of the European Union with the most movement of goods. Tarragona occupies the 29th position, it is located in front of the port of Las Palmas, which is in position 30, and just behind the Port of Cagliari-Sarroch (Sardinia, Italy) in place 28 and Nantes Saint-Nazaire (France ), in position 27 – May 4, 2021
This classification, which is produced each year by TransporteXXI, is headed by the port of Rotterdam, which has moved 436.8 million tons, almost double that of the port of Antwerp (Belgium) with 230.8 million tons and Hamburg (Germany) with 126.3 million tons. The first port of the state system is the port of Algeciras, in fourth place, where 107.3 million tons were moved during 2020. In a year marked by the pandemic, the Port of Tarragona was able to move 26.5 million tons that placed it in seventh place in the state ranking, achieving the same position as in 2019. During the 2020 period, the docks Tarragona moved 18,320 tons of bulk liquids, 6,481 tons of bulk solids and 1,540 of general cargo. A fact that highlights the resilience of the Port of Tarragona in the face of a complex world situation, being able to resist and even reverse the trend in the last months of the year. A Port capable of changing the trend The recovery that began to show in August of last year is evident in the figure reached this month of March 2021, it is the second best record achieved since January 1, 2020 to date (pending the April data). The Port of Tarragona closed the first quarter of 2021 with a growth of 13% thanks to a month of March where 2,611,674 tons were moved, consolidating the recovery trend set in the last months of 2020 and the first months of 2021, and occupying the 5th place of the state classification provisionally. Another data that shows the improvement achieved by the Port of Tarragona are the 223 stopovers registered in the month of March, the best record of stairs since October 2019, when 227 were reached.
