Leixões, Portugal (PortSEurope) February 11, 2019 – A few minutes had passed since the end of the presentation of the Reconversion Project of the Container Terminal South of Leixões port and the Minister of the Sea, Ana Paula Vitorino, announced that the investment will not stop here.
An announcement of “new investments” at Leixões port is scheduled for February 27. In the presentation of the project of the South Terminal, the president of the terminal concessionaire company, Robert Yildirim, raised the tip of the veil by reinforcing the idea of the need to expand the North Terminal.
Currently, Leixões port exports to 184 countries. With a capacity of 650,000 TEUs, in 2018 it exceeded 660,000 TEUs. In the same year it received 19.2 million tonnes of cargo and 2,551 ships.
The leader of the 12th largest port operator in the world and the second largest in Europe says that Leixões port is the most efficient in the Iberian Peninsula on its scale. The reason that leads the investor to want to increase the investment in this port is to take it to “a next level”.
