Castellón, Spain (PortSEurope) December 10, 2021 – State agency Puertos del Estado has approved three projects in Castellón out of a total of 19 approved throughout the port system for the pre-commercial project phase of the Ports 4.0 program. The Autoridad Portuaria de Castelló (APC – Port Authority of Castellon) is the facilitating body for two of them. Firstly, the Machsense project, presented by BECSA
Simetria, for the development of a low-cost sensorial and artificial intelligence system to control and reduce the impacts of diffuse particle emissions in port environments. These technologies offer high added value solutions that will allow the port authority and the companies in the port sector to improve their economic competitiveness while improving their eco-efficiency and sustainability parameters. In addition to PortCastelló, the Bilbao Port Authority, BP and UBE are facilitators of the project. The second project is “VIPE: monitoring the vulnerability of port infrastructure from space”, presented by Detektia and Deep Insight, both spin-offs of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, to improve the service levels of the port and its concessions through the provision of tools of high technological value that support decision-making in port management and exploitation in the areas of infrastructure reliability, conservation and maintenance, design and execution of maritime and land works, among other aspects. The proposed solution integrates 3 key technologies: satellite radar, artificial intelligence and data management platforms. In addition to APC the port authorities of Huelva and Bahía de Algeciras are facilitators. APC has shown a letter of support to the S-Sirena project, presented by Singlar Innovación and Nunsys SL, whose objective is the evolution and demonstration in a real environment of a platform for the detection and management of logical security threats and anomalous behaviors , with the aim of positioning ports as benchmarks in the area of protection and cybersecurity specialized in Smart Port environments through the use of new technologies. The total investment of the three projects will be €1.24 million; the total grant they will receive being €936,355. The president of APC, Rafa Simó, has pointed out that “3 of the 19 pre-commercial projects approved by Puertos del Estado have roots in APC says a lot about the work carried out by the innovative fabric of our environment and the alliances opened by the Port Authority.” He recalled that they are projects: “that will serve to improve environmental aspects, security, management and port exploitation”. It should be remembered that Ports 4.0 is an initiative of Puertos del Estado that aims to encourage the creation or consolidation of a network of emerging companies, spin-offs or new lines of business in the technological field. This capital fund has launched its second call to attract, support and facilitate the application of talent and entrepreneurship to the Spanish public and private logistics-port sector in the context of the 4th industrial revolution. The Castellón Port Authority encourages local companies to participate in the call.
