Barcelona, Spain (PortSEurope) October 8, 2018 – Rentals of logistic space by companies in Catalonia increased in January-September 2018 increased by 53%, a total equivalent of 497,000 m².
In the third quarter of 2018, some 90,000 m² were rented out to companies, 15% more than in the same quarter in 2017.
Some 45% of the rental contracts in the first nine months of the year were in Barcelona and the nearby area of Baix Llobregat. Another 38% was in the Vallès area, to the west of Barcelona, with the remaining 13% in Camp de Tarragona, Bages and Girona.
Some 15 of the rental contracts were for properties over 10,000 m², and involved companies such as Amazon, and the Mercadona supermarket chain which rented 10,500 m² on a plot of 20,000 m² in Barcelona’s Zona Franca industrial estate.
DHL, the international courier, is to invest in a logistic centre of 3,000 m² in Castellbisbal, in Vallès Occidental, about 40 kilometres outside Barcelona.
