
Romanian seaports see improved 2019

Constanta, Romania (PortSEurope) January 21, 2020 – Total freight traffic in the Romanian seaports registered 66.6 million tonnes in 2019, up 8.64% compared to 61.3 million tonnes in 2018. This is the highest cargo number since 62.3 million tonnes in 1988 and in 2008, 61.8 million tonnes. In total traffic, the largest share, of 32%, is cereals, followed by crude oil 12.1%, miscellaneous items 9.9%, petroleum products 9.5%, iron ore, iron
waste 7.8 %, fertilizers (natural and chemical) 6%, non-ferrous ores and solid mineral fuels, each with 5.8%. Grain traffic was a record 21.3million tonnes, compared with nearly 18 million tonnes in 2018, or 20.3 million tonnes in 2016. Maritime traffic increased by 5.8% to 51.45 million tonnes (48.6 million tonnes in 2018), and river traffic increased to 15.14 million tonnes, with 19.58% compared to 12.66 million tonnes, quantity registered in 2018. Traffic of containers registered 6.55 million tonnes and 666,036 TEU in 2019. Increases traffic was registered for all groups of goods, except for oilseeds, oil and fats, non-ferrous minerals and wastes, equipment and machines. In Constanta port, traffic of goods was 58.13 million tons, compared to 53 million tons in 2018. In Midia port, traffic of goods was 8.2 million tons, compared with 2018, when 8.18 million tonnes were registered. In Mangalia port, cargo registered was 271,722 tonnes, compared to 113,095 tonnes in 2018.
