Algeciras, Spain (PortSEurope) August 16, 2019 – Autoridad Portuaria de la Bahía de Algeciras (APBA – Port Authority of Algeciras) plans to invest €7 million in a project awarded to Spain’s Sacyr SA to improve the Juan Carlos I pier.
The work has started which aims to improve the port’s draft so it can receive the largest mega container ships, reaching -18.5 metres.
The actions, which will last until the end of the year, include the improvement of the foundation of the pier.
The port currently has terminals handling megaships of the three leading shipping companies in the market: Maersk Line, MSC and CMA CGM.
Sacyr is a diverse group operating mainly in the sectors of engineering and infrastructures, concessions, services and industrial.
