Santander, Spain (PortSEurope) August 16, 2019 – Autoridad Portuaria de Santander (APS – Port Authority of Santander) is working on a plan to build a vertical silo for storage of vehicles in Espigón Central de Raos.
The project will provide sufficient surface area for this type of traffic, easing a current storage issue in response to logistics operators demanding a larger storage area close to the berthing line.
This solution will provide the necessary surface area without having to resort to the bay landfill and ensures the consolidation of strategic traffic for the growth of the Port of Santander.
The port proposes an area of about 73,000 m² with a first floor slab, maintaining the possibility of expanding the silo with two more plants in the future.
The contract execution budget (VAT included) amounts to €24.78 million and the total term of the contract is 21 months, three months corresponding to the drafting of the project and 18 months to the execution of the work.
The car terminal at the port has been growing in a sustainable way during the last 20 years until reaching the 7.5 million vehicles annually.
