Santander, Spain (PortSEurope) January 30, 2019 – Santander port’s administration does not have the required capacity to deal with an emergency situation that would arise in the case of a hard Brexit.
The port has presented an action plan to the central Spanish government which could be applied to different areas. As an example, this scenario would lead to a greater demand for port personnel to deal with customs procedures and alternative inspections for goods entering and leaving the United Kingdom.
The president of Santander port, Jaime González will present in Madrid on February 7 the need for the government to articulate a kind of “crisis committee” that brings together several ministries and allow a wide range of decisions to face the hardest assumption of the departure of the United Kingdom from the EU.
