Sardinia’s Porto Torres sees call for investment

Porto Torres, Sardinia, Italy (PortSEurope) January 6, 2018 – Porto Torres has experienced a fall in traffic, security problems and poor services for people (visitors and workers) using the port.

General secretary of the Filt-Cgil Sardegna, Arnaldo Boeddu, described the situation as critical.

“In addition to problems related to the decline in the traffic of goods, and the very high tariffs for passengers in the port there is a real security problem”, reports the leader of the transport CGIL, which has invited Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mare Di Sardegna (Sardinian Sea Port Authority), which manages the port, to visit and inspect the areas of concern.

“The quay ‘Alti fondali’ was inaugurated but has never been opened for docking because the bollards have not yet been tested and all the quays of the western pier lack essential services”, said Boeddu.

The situation of the “Ponente 3” wharf is more critical since in all that area, the workers carry out the storage of the semi-trailers completely in the dark every day.
