Seville, Spain (PortSEurope) April 12, 2019 – Autoridad Portuaria de Sevilla (APS – Port Authority of Seville) has launched a tender for the maintenance dredging of the Guadalquivir estuary, which includes works for the conservation of the canal during 2019 and 2020 for about €2.8 million ($3.2 million).
The specifications include a protocol for the integral management of land dumps to favour the presence of waterfowl during the winter. This protocol has been prepared by Spain’s Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and derives from the studies that began in 2013 to establish a model of adaptive management of the dumps.
The document includes measures for the morphological adaptation of the dumps and for the management of water. Once the sediments have been extracted, the sustainable management protocol establishes how to dispose of the sands in the dumps to improve biodiversity.
