Algeciras, Spain (PortSEurope) May 14, 2018 – A total of seven Spanish ports have achieved environmental certification of the international standard Port Environmental Review System (PERS) which is promoted by the European Sea Ports Organization (ESPO).
The awarded port are Algeciras, Barcelona, Cartagena, Castellón, Huelva, Melilla and Vigo. This assessment places Spain as the European country that has the largest number of ports with the certificate.
Of the 100 ports that ESPO considers, there are a total of 32 that have a PERS certification, created in 1997 to assess the efforts made by the different port authorities in Europe in the maintenance of improvements to combat pollution.
