Spain’s BEST Increases Height Of Three Cranes At Barcelona Port

Barcelona, Spain (PortSEurope) January 23, 2018 – Barcelona Europe South Terminal (BEST), a subsidiary of Hutchison Ports, has increased the height of its three cranes at Barcelona port to enable the handling of large container ships.

The spreader height of the ship-to-shore cranes was increased to 47 from 42 metres and they are now able to handle container ships with a capacity of 18,000 TEUs.

BEST handled 139 ships with a capacity of more than 13,000 TEUs each in 2017, the CEO of the company, Guillermo Belcastro, said. The terminal is equipped with a total of 11 cranes the increase of the height of three of them enables it to offer a larger flexibility and capacity to service bigger ships, he noted.
