Spanish fishing sector to participate in COP25 Climate Summit

Madrid, Spain (PortSEurope) November 30, 2019 – The Spanish and European fisheries sectors will actively participate in the COP25 Climate Summit held in Madrid from December 2-13. The general secretary of CEPESCA and president of Europêche and ICFA, Javier Garat, will discuss at a round table, alongside with the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities climate change and its relevance fisheries. On December 7, Day
of Action of the Oceans at COP25, Javier Garat, will address the tangible impacts of climate change on fisheries and the corresponding adaptation action, especially from the point of view of Spain and Europe, through their participation in a debate and workshop organized for that purpose. Five days later, Garat will participate in the conference “Missions in Horizon Europe: Design and Impact by and for Spanish society”, with the objective of publicising the new Missions planned by the 2021-2027 Horizon Europe R + D + I Framework Program, presenting the initiatives undertaken by the ship owners to mitigate the effects of climate change. This day is presented as the launch of a national exercise to discuss and contribute in five areas: adaptation to climate change, including social transformation; climate neutral and intelligent cities; soil health and food; oceans, seas, healthy coastal and inland waters, and cancer.
