Barcelona, Spain (PortSEurope) May 15, 2018 – Cargo traffic in Spanish ports with origin or destination in China reached 18.7 million tonnes in 2017, 3.9% more than the previous year, according to data from national ports agency Puertos del Estado.
China represented 40% of the 46.1 million tonnes that Spain moved last year by sea in all Asian countries. Other important countries in the Asian region, although far from China, were India, with 7.7 million tonnes, Indonesia (6.9 million tonnes), South Korea (2.8 million tonnes) and Japan (one million tonnes).
About 40% of the goods coming from China were in transit, meaning that they had as final destination third countries and that, therefore, they used Spanish ports as the best connections to reach their final destination.
Puertos del Estado will participate in the “Transport Logistic China” fair, which takes place on May 16-18 in Shanghai, in order to promote Spanish ports as the “fastest and most efficient” connection between the Asian country and Europe.
