Madrid, Spain (PortSEurope) April 1, 2019 – The Official State Gazette (BOE) has published the royal decree law approved by the government that completes the liberalisation of the port stowage sector.
The regulation includes changes in the hiring of workers in the sector, such as mandatory subrogation for companies that leave the collective of dockworkers, Sagep (sociedades anónimas de gestión de trabajadores portuarios).
Another normative change of the decree law affects the Law on Temporary Employment Companies (LETT), modified to adapt them to the specificities of the sector, and a requirement of stevedoring company license is established for port employment centres.
The Council of Ministers decided to urgently process the decree of special aid for stevedores affected by changes in the sector, derived from a ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) of 2014, which facilitates voluntary redundancies of workers that are five years after retirement.
