
Taranto port sees increase in Q4 2020 cargo traffic

Taranto, Italy (PortSEurope) January 19, 2021 – In the fourth quarter of 2020, Taranto port handled 4.11 million tons of cargoes, up +5.0% on the same period of 2019, of which 2.04 million tons of goods at landing (-7.8%) and 2.07 million tons of cargo on boarding (+21.6%). The most consistent traffic volume, that of solid bulk, recorded an increase of +2.7%, reaching a total
of 2.10 million tons. Conventional goods are also growing with 886,000 tons (+16.1%) as well as goods in containers which amounted to 25,000 tons, traffic which was reactivated in the second half of 2020 when the Turkish Yilport acquired the management of the multi-sector Pier. On the other hand, liquid bulk was down, which totaled 1.10 million tons (-0.7%). In the whole of 2020, the port of Taranto handled 15.91 million tons of cargoes, a decrease of -12.2% on 2019, of which 8.43 million tons of unloading goods (-18.0% ) and 7.48 million tons of cargo on boarding (-4.7%). Traffic volumes decreased in all product sectors, starting from that of solid bulk in which 8.42 million tons were handled (-8.2%). The liquid bulk is piled to 4.28 million tons (-1.5%).
