Taranto, Italy (PortSEurope) November 27, 2018 – Taranto’s Coast Guard has seized a port area of 2,000 m², operated by a company with registered office in Rome and active in the trade of iron.
In the area subject to seizure, about 150 tonnes of ferrous scrap in bulk were stored ready to be transported by sea and be used at furnaces.
The analysis of the materials showed that they had macroscopic inconsistencies to that declared by the manufacturer and therefore their subsequent boarding on ships from the port of Taranto was declared illegal.
The material is dangerous for the environment, as it was not stored in the proper way to prevent dust spills.
