Tarragona, Spain (PortSEurope) November 13, 2020 – Tarragona port and Vopak Terquimsa attended the Platts European Petrochemicals Virtual Conference 2020 and jointly presented “Logistical challenges across the value chain in times of Covid-19”, which was attended by more than a 100 attendees. Vopak Terquimsa operates a terminal at the port which stores oil, chemicals, LPG and biofuels. The main topics were the circular economy, the
current market situation of the petrochemical sector, logistics and the situation of plastic recycling. Tarragona and Vopak Terquimsa presented the strengths and infrastructures they have in the port facilities in the liquid sector, the capacity for growth and the strategy to follow in the coming years to become a regional hub in the Mediterranean for this type of product. Tarragona, with first-class infrastructure and openwork, supports local industry and is positioned as a hub in the Mediterranean for the storage and distribution of petrochemical products. The set of companies of the chemical and petrochemical industry, generate an annual production of 20 million tons, which represents 50% of the production of Catalonia and 25% of the Spanish. The port is the logistics platform through which the raw materials needed for the production processes of the chemical sector are imported, and the products derived from them are exported.
