Málaga, Spain (PortSEurope) September 11, 2017 – Thomson Cruises plans to handle 92,000 passengers at Málaga port aboard the “Thomson Celebration”, “Thomson Spirit” and “TUI Discovery” ships in 2018, the Spanish harbour said following a meeting with representatives of the company in the framework of the Seatrade Europe fair in Hamburg.
The company has reiterated its intention to operate Málaga as a base port next year. The decision of the company will also represent a boost for the tourism sector in the area, as a strong rise in the number of overnight stays at local hotels is expected. Moreover, Málaga airport will also see its passenger traffic increased, the harbour said.
The delegation of Málaga at the fair, including representatives of Málaga port authority (Autoridad Portuaria de Málaga), finalised its participation in Seatrade Europe on September 8. The port managers also met with representatives of the Seatrade organisation, in order to discuss the preparation for the Seatrade Med fair that will be carried out in Málaga in the autumn of 2020.
