Total freight traffic in Romanian seaports increased by 9.25% in Jan-Nov 2019

Constanta, Romania (PortSEurope) December 19, 2019 – Total freight traffic registered in the first eleven months of 2019 in Constanta and Mangalia harbour increased by 9.25%, reaching 61.14 million tonnes, compared to 55.9 million tonnes in the same period last year, according to a report by the port of Constanta. Of the total traffic registered, maritime (sea) traffic was 47.24 million tonnes (up 6.54%), and the river traffic represented 13.9 million tonnes (up
19.6%).A significant increase of traffic was registered in cereals of 18.3%. If last year, in the first eleven months, the grain traffic was 16.6 million tonnes, from the beginning of 2019 until the end of November, the amount of cereals exceeded 19.64 million tonnes. Other groups of goods that saw significant increases in traffic during the first eleven months of this year are: crude oil 7.31 million tonnes (compared to 6.71 million tonnes), various cargo 6.10 million tonnes (6.05 million tonnes), petroleum products 5.78 million tonnes (5.38 million tonnes), iron ore and iron waste 4.54 million tonnes (3.84 million tonnes), iron ore and non-ferrous waste 3.64 million tonnes (3.62 million tonnes), solid mineral fuels 3.58 million tonnes (3.38 million tonnes), fertilizers 3.57 million tonnes (2.73 million tonnes) , metal products 2.35 million tons (2.12 million tons). Decreases of traffic were reported for the following groups of goods compared to the first eleven months of 2018: oily seeds 1.98 million tonnes (3.12 million tonnes), chemicals 0.6 million tonnes (0.7 million tons), equipment, cars 0.3 million tons (0.4 million tons). Container traffic remained constant during the analyzed period, at 6.09 million tonnes of cargo in 2019, compared with 6.04 million tonnes of cargo in the first 11 months of 2018. The weight of the traffic of goods is thus represented in the statistical records of CN APM SA Constanta: cereals 32.1%, crude oil 12%, various articles 10%, petroleum products 9.5%, iron ore and iron waste 7.4% , non-ferrous minerals and wastes 6%, solid mineral fuels 5.9%, fertilizers 5.8%, metal products 3.9% and oil seeds 3.3%. In the first eleven months of 2019, 13,398 ships (12,559 vessels at eleven months 2018) arrived in the Romanian seaports, of which 3,843 maritime vessels and 9,555 river vessels.
