Trieste, Italy (PortSEurope) June 11, 2018 – From yesterday, a new rail has service has started, connecting Villach (southern Austria), Udine and Trieste, the Italian port.
The new service is a cooperation between Italy’s Trenitalia, part of state-owned Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, and ÖBB, the Austrian national railway company.
The agreement, wanted by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region of Italy, is mainly targeted at increasing cross-border tourism. It also reflects a steady increase in new rail connections between the Adriatic port of Trieste and southern Europe.
